On Wednesday 11 June we were lucky to have ecologist James Roberts give a presentation and do a Q&A about boosting biodiversity in your garden!
There was a lot of interesting information, and plenty of discussion and questions, including:
- bird feeders and the importance of providing food for various animals, including squirrels
- tips on placing bird boxes and whether different types can be mixed
- using Merlin and INaturalist apps for wildlife observation
- experiences with robins nesting and the impact of tree removal on bats
- the decline in frog populations due to newts eating frogspawn
- creating mini ponds using recycled materials
- the importance of providing safe water sources for bees
- advice on supporting frog populations
- the presence of stag beetles and chafer bugs
- the best placement for log piles and native fish for garden ponds
- frog spawn swapping practices
- finding a stag beetle near our homes.
We hope to get James back for another session sometime in the future. Thank you to James, and everyone who attended!
